What’s the difference between parental coaching and counselling?

 
Often these words are used interchangeably, but can differ in meaning from one person to another.

You might be a client who just needs a little direction, some strategies, some outside perspective and to work together with a parental coach to reach a desired outcome. This requires a more practical approach to the challenges you face.

You might be a client who needs some deeper understanding of what causes your emotions, how to resolve past issues that are effecting how you parent, and need help to feel more at ease with your parenting. You might be a parent who wants to deal with your parental stress, depression or anxiety, so we would counsel you through that first and then work on any strategies you may want to implement.

We do both! Every client is different and we integrate both counselling and coaching approaches when we help parents. You will often hear Jackie Hall say that whenever we are dealing with an issue with your child you are always talking about two issues – you and your response, and them and theirs, and we always need to work on these two topics separately.

This is what you’ll get when you work with the Parental Stress Centre one-on-one. We’ll help you feel more relaxed about parenting, and still deal with the challenges you’re facing with your children.

How can the Parental Stress Centre help me?

 
Our focus is always on how we can give you the most information and effective strategies for change, in the least amount of sessions.

We will tailor our sessions to your learning style and give you homework to do, to apply what you have learnt. This is important, because you want to practice utilising your knowledge or skills so we can fine tune them as we continue.

Our intention is always to empower you to be able learn and utilise learnt skills to be able to handle the challenges of parenting without needing ongoing, expensive sessions.

You can have your sessions casually, weekly, fortnightly or monthly if you want to space them out.

Difference #1: – Solutions that create change

 
We don’t just spend your sessions talking about your feelings, problems or past issues. We teach you how to change. We’ve endlessly heard from clients who have spent hundreds of dollars on counselling sessions, only to feel worse when they leave because all they did was ‘roll in the mud’ of what was going wrong in their lives.

It can be important to talk about how we’re feeling, so we don’t ignore your feelings, however we teach you to understand how to alleviate those feelings with practical methods that teach you how to think and feel differently when faced with life’s challenges. We educate you on how to alleviate stress, depression, anxiety, guilt, anger, resentment and more so that they no longer have to dominate your life
 

Difference #2: – Access to our online programs

 
In your very first sessions we will get a clear understanding of what’s happening for you and the change you wish to create, and we will create a plan that includes learning from our online programs. We will either allocate certain videos for you to watch, or put you on an online program where you can learn the information you need to change.

This is a fantastic way to teach you the skills you need without endless sessions teaching you theory. You learn in your time, then we’ll iron out your sticking points in our session times.

Difference #3: – Summary of your session

 
Have you ever left a counselling/coaching session and forgotten everything that was discussed and be left with very little idea on what you need to do to change? You were all inspired after finishing, and then had no idea how to maintain that feeling moments later.

Jackie is the founder of the Parental Stress Centre of Australia. Because Jackie runs the live webinars and manages the support groups as part of her online programs, her availability is limited. How do you run your sessions?

 
Each session is typically held via gotowebinar.com (an online service – free to you – where I can show you visuals of the information I am teaching), via skype or by telephone.

Furthermore, sessions can be booked to fit in with your schedule, whether it be between work hours, school hours, your child’s sleep times or when you bribe them with chocolate and videos. You don’t have to even leave the comfort of your home. Come to your sessions in your PJ’s if you want!

How do I know this will work for me?

 
The methods are a combination of tools and strategies condensed into ease to use process. My methods have helped thousands of people to end their depression, anxiety, addictions, and stress related disorder adapted from many years of studying, applying on myself and my clients and using in workshops and live online programs over the last 10 years.

Many other helping fields focus on continually talking a lot about your past and giving you minimal tools for change, or at the other end of the extreme, so many tools to change that you never know which ones to use for which situation.

My methods focus on empowering you to change. One of my favourite sayings it, “you don’t get clean from rolling in the mud”. What this means is that when you are re-hashing old events over and over again, what you are actually doing is reinforcing the beliefs (and hence the neural pathways in the brain) that created your stress in the first place.

Stress, depression and anxiety do not occur because of an event that has occurred. It happens because of how you have perceived an event or how you perceive life in general. We teach you how to quickly identify the specific beliefs/perceptions causing your stress and teach you quick and simple ways to change them.

We only look at your past briefly (in 1 session) only with the intention of identifying your habitual thinking, not to keep going over and over your ‘story’. After all, the past doesn’t exist unless we create it in the present, so why would we want to keep rehashing over what has already gone? Especially when it continues to cause us more stress and emotion!

Using my simple, easy-to-remember 5-step process for stopping your stress we teach you how to re-focus on solutions, rather than problems and incorporate a unique method of how to change the thinking that underlies all stress, depression and anxiety. This method consists of just 4 points that identify the cause of stress and the 4 points that will upgrade your thinking and stop your stress.

Why are you qualified to help me?

 
I started my own obsession with personal development as a teenager. Every book about understanding the mind/body connection that I could get my hands on, I was determined to devour. I have lived and breathed personal development for over 20 years! In my early 20s I did numerous national and international workshops, where I trained in their techniques and assisted in the facilitation of personal development programs, learning their structures and techniques.

I spent 3 years working for two retreats, specialising in severe depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addictions, running workshops and working one-on-one with clients to help them turn their lives around.

How many sessions will I need?

 
You can have as many, or as little as you like. I do recommend that you have at least 4 weekly sessions to begin with, as this will give you the fundamentals for change. Just four sessions will give you a thorough understanding of your unique stress, depression and/or anxiety and why it makes sense that you have it (actually you’ll know after 2 sessions) and the next 2 sessions will give you the tools to change and stop your stress, depression and anxiety for good.

After your initial 4 sessions, you can either decide to stop or continue on weekly, fortnightly or monthly sessions to go even further in depth with your learning.

If you sign up to 4 or more sessions, your sessions include:
